Access to the patented technology can be obtained either through membership in the partnership or through a license agreement with K/S HIMPP.
Any hearing instrument or component manufacturer can become a HIMPP partner for US$ 2.5 million. A partner is entitled to a non-exclusive worldwide license under all existing HIMPP patents and applications. A yearly cost-contribution fee is paid by all partners.
Hearing instrument/component manufacturers not wishing to become partners, may license the HIMPP patents at a flat royalty of 1% of the hearing instrument price, irrespective of the number of HIMPP patents used. This may correspond to less than 0.01% royalty per licensed patent. The 1% royalty is always calculated at the manufacturing level, i.e. based on the price to wholesale, in order not to impose royalty on sales/ distribution costs and audiological services.
